For the sixth year Simcocks has held an essay competition for aspiring lawyers. Our annual Partnership with Schools initiative is an essay competition for A level and International Baccalaureate students interested in a career in law. Phil Games, Chris Brooks, Emily Morton and Leanne Hinds visited high schools on the Island earlier this year to launch the competition.
Students from Ramsey Grammar, St Ninian’s, QEII, Ballakermeen and King William’s College entered the writing competition, responding to one of the following questions:
1. The law prioritises the protection of children and thus it provides them with little to no real autonomy. Discuss.
2. What impact did Covid-19 have on human rights and the rule of law?
The essays have been read and marked and we are pleased to announce that the winning entry was written by Connie Edwards from Ramsey Grammar School, who wrote a well-considered and expressed discussion on the subject of child protection and autonomy. She has been presented with a £500 voucher prize, and is keen to take a work experience placement at the company later this year.
