A big thank you to everyone who attended the Simcocks sponsored Douglas vs Altrincham Kersal rugby match on the 9th December. With Storm Caroline making an unwelcome gate crash to the event, bringing enough snow to render memories of the infamous 2013 snow storms and ruining the busy staff Christmas party season, the match was quickly moved to an alternative venue and a later kick off of 3pm.
The weather didn’t diminish morale, with a hearty lunch provided by the fantastic catering team at Douglas rugby club, supporters made the journey to the spotlights of Ramsey RUFC pitch to watch a thrilling display of rugby.
The game was fiercely dominated by Douglas who were in the first half able to utilise the skilful passing of their backline and the strength of their forward pack to lead 24 – 0 after 40 minutes, the second half began largely competitive with Kersal grabbing a consolation try, however a penalty kick by team captain Bryn Snellgrove steadied the ship and Douglas re-found their composure, scoring two late tries, resulting in a final score of 42 – 5.
This year, Douglas RUFC began their campaign in their newly promoted league of North One West of Northern Division. With the season so far seeing a mass of highs and lows for the squad, including defeating current league champions Vale of Lune away, Douglas who are currently 5th on the league table are looking to consolidate their position in what will undoubtedly be a competitive and gripping run up to the end of the season.
Simcocks Advocates are proud to sponsor Douglas RUFC and would like to thank the hospitality team for all their hard work and best wishes to the team for the rest of the season.
