Cayley gears up for Island Games

Island Games medal hopeful Cayley Ennett has been given a sponsorship boost by Simcocks Advocates.

Cayley, 20, from Greeba will be representing the Isle of Man in a new kit following the tie-up with the Ridgeway Street law practice.

Cayley, who is studying law at Warwick University, is now putting the finishing touches to her preparation for the Games. She will be joining the cream of off-shore sporting talent and is part of a team representing the Island that is heading off to Rhodes on Tuesday (June 25 2007).

Her first competition will be the Criterium on July 1 and this will be followed a couple of days later by the Time Trial and Road Race. Cayley has been cycling for more than nine years. She was a member of British Cycling World Class Start Programme for three years, and completed some training camps with the British Cycling Olympic Development Programme as a junior.

Cayley has had numerous successes. In 2003 she was Juvenile British National 10 mile time-trial champion, and is the current holder of the championship record in that event. In 2004 she won both the Junior British National 10 and 25 mile time-trial championships. The following year she won the Junior British National Circuit Time-Trial Championship.

She is no stranger to competing at the Island Games having represented the Isle of Man in Shetland in 2005. As part of the warm up to Rhodes she finished in ninth place in the Women’s International Tour of Malta at Easter.

Cayley said: “I am looking for some medals from the Games. The heat will be a big factor and I have tried to adapt my training for this, but I am really looking for a medal from the Time Trial. The few days in Rhodes before the racing starts will help me acclimatize.
“All the competitors are very friendly and the high morale is a real boost to performance.
“Cycling is an expensive business and with so many trips abroad I am very grateful to Simcocks for its support. I did work experience there when I was at Queen Elizabeth II High School, last year during the summer holidays and I will be there again this summer.”

Cayley will be cheered on in Rhodes by her mum and dad, Karen and Geoff.
Head of Simcocks litigation department Chris Arrowsmith said: “We are delighted to be able to assist Cayley in her cycling career. Balancing the demands of being a full-time law student and competing at the highest possible level is not easy and she should be complemented for her outstanding efforts.
“We look forward to welcoming her back into the office later in the summer, when I am sure she will be able to show-off several new medals and trophies she will have received between now and then.”
