New lawyer for commercial department

Douglas-based law firm Simcocks Advocates has appointed commercial lawyer Kevin O’Loughlin, increasing its commercial team to 12.

Kevin, who joined the Ridgeway Street practice from Abacus Trust Company where he was Head of Legal, brings more than 10 years of specialist experience with him.

In his new role Kevin, 42, will be advising clients on mergers, acquisitions, funds and trusts.

He has considerable experience in the shipping field as before qualifying as a barrister in Ireland, Kevin worked in the marine and aviation claims department of the Dublin-based Insurance Corporation of Ireland.

Kevin said: “I decided to make the move to give me a wider exposure to different areas of law and I am looking forward to working in a commercial department that deals with both large established institutions and small businesses. The work promises to be varied and interesting.”

Simcocks chief executive, Phil Games said: “We are very pleased that such an experienced legal professional as Kevin has joined Simcocks. He is already proving to be a valuable asset and is a knowledgeable and enthusiastic member of the department. This appointment is part of our commercial department’s strategy to achieve sustainable growth.”

Outside work Kevin plays badminton and golf and is the Honorary Secretary of Rowany Golf Club.
