London Secondment for Advocate
Amy Scott who qualified as an Advocate with Simcocks in September 2002 has recently returned from a two month secondment with London Solicitors Bates Wells Braithwaite.
Simcocks offer to all newly qualified advocates the opportunity to work in a different jurisdiction - the first being Mark Dougherty who was seconded to the Bermudan firm of Appleby Spurling & Kemp followed by Kay Henry who opted for a two month period with Bates Wells Braithwaite.
Amy said
"I thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to work with a City firm and to make new contacts. However whilst the working environment was somewhat different, particularly having to commute to work, the quality and complexity of commercial cases that passes through Isle of Man law firms does not appear to be significantly different from those in the City, except for the volume!"
Chief Executive Phil Games commented
"We believe that for all newly qualified advocates who have not previously worked in a large firm in the UK or elsewhere, it is important that they get some experience not least to broaden their outlook on the type and volume of work that City firms become involved in. We see this as a good investment in our Advocates albeit that in one case the attraction of the warmer climate proved so great that the advocate chose to remain in the jurisdiction to where he was seconded. For that reason we will stick to secondments where the weather is more inclement!"
