Foundation gets a cash boost

The coffers of the Manx Stroke Foundation have been given a £4000 cash injection by Simcocks Advocates.
The Douglas-based law practice adopted the charity for 12 months and gave them a donation of £3000 a few months ago. Director, Chris Arrowsmith, presented a cheque for a further £1000 to members of the group at one of its recent meetings.
Chair of the Manx Stroke Foundation, Maureen Redmayne, said: “Everyone in the group would like to say thank you to Simcocks. We use financial donations in many ways. It may be for something like a pair of special shoes or a piece of equipment for the home. It may be to provide transport to our stroke club or to provide outings for people who otherwise may not be able to get out.
“The stroke club is a vital part of our work providing a social setting for carers as well as the person affected by stroke. Many people who have had a stroke become isolated because of communication problems or difficulty moving about and the club is an ideal place to meet other understanding people in a similar situation.
“We also sponsor an art group set up by the Stroke Association’s Family Support worker. We organise and sponsor training on an annual basis for nurses and Health workers in the hospitals, Nursing and Residential Homes and the community.”
The money from Simcocks has been raised through a range of events including a walk along the Manx Heritage Trail, raffles, dress down days and staff lunches.
Chief executive of Simcocks Advocates, Phil Games said: “Everyone in the company has been involved in raising this money and wanted to help an Island-based charity. Staff were very motivated to help because they cared about the charity and the work it does. We hope our contribution helps such a worthwhile group.”
The Manx Stroke Foundation meets at Masham Court, Victoria Avenue, Douglas every fortnight on a Thursday from 7.30-9.30pm. For more details contact Terry Chilcott on 627163.
