Manx Stroke Foundation

Great strides have been made to bolster the coffers of the Manx Stroke Foundation by Simcocks Advocates who have presented the group with £3000.
The cash collected through a range of events including a walk along the Manx Heritage Trail. The 20 people who took part collected £1300.
There have also been donations through raffles, dress down days, stress-buster massage sessions, a bacon butty feast, a sumptuous cake spread and donations of unwanted holiday change.
Director, Irini Newby, presented a cheque to members of the group at one of its recent meetings.
Chair of the Manx Stroke Foundation, Maureen Redmayne said: “We raise all our money through donations and fundraising and we think it is wonderful that Simcocks has chosen to support us.
“We try and help people in practical ways by buying specialist hospital chairs and we pay for training days for professionals working with people who have had stroke. We also provide social support and hold fortnightly meetings and arrange nights out. This contribution means we can do all the things we want to.”
Chief executive of Simcocks Advocates, Phil Games said: “The practice decided to adopt one Island-based charity for 12 months and we are delighted to be involved with such a worthwhile cause.
“An estimated 150,000 people in the UK have a stroke every year and it is the third most common cause of death. In the Isle of Man we are lucky to have a small but highly effective group that provides social events, training and practical help. We hope that by the end of the year we will have made a meaningful contribution.”
The Manx Stroke Foundation meets at Masham Court, Victoria Avenue, Douglas every fortnight on a Thursday from 7.30-9.30pm.
